“KIBUNA” (Yellow Crucian) and “DEN DEN DAIKO” (Den Den Drum) are traditional local toy of Utsunomiya-city. They are very popular to us. That is why we regard them as our Banner.
They are designed wishing that our club is always familiar to and loved by all the people in Utsunomiya.
How were they popular to us?
Long time ago, when smallpox was prevalent in Utsunomiya, children ate yellow crucian (KIBUNA) then they got well. Since then people made papier-mache KIBUNA and offered to God on New Year’s Day wishing their children’s health and prevention from the illness.
DEN DEN DAIKO is said to be modeled after the drum which was used for praying for rain in old days. It means to have a harvest year and do a good business.
Even now both KIBUNA and DEN DEN DAIKO are sold annually at Hatsuichi (New Year’s Market) in Utsunomiya.
